Push To The Bottom

I'm reminded this morning that the leaders in Jesus' Kingdom are not the ones who push themselves to the top, but rather push themselves to the bottom. They are the servers, servants. They lead by going to the bottom, lifting others up and holding them high.

They are the large rocks at the bottom of a building that hold the structure up. If leaders pushed themselves to the top, it would be like an upside down triangle. The structure would never hold and the whole thing would topple. Satan's Kingdom is top heavy and he lords over his servants of wickedness with cruelty and injustice.

God's Kingdom is flipped. God's kingdom will never fall because its foundation is love. A love that prefers the next person over themselves. A love that washes the feet of everyone they encounter. A love that lifts and celebrates God's most precious creation: people.

But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world Lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
