I'm The Same Boy I Used To Be

High school class reunions are always fun and can be quite interesting, especially if classmates haven't seen each other in 25 years, since graduation day. Prior to arriving you wonder who you'll see but more so, you wonder if you will recognize the people you see and if they'll recognize you, especially if you haven't followed anyone on social media. Many reunions, I think, even provide name tags for attendees, just to make it a little easier for everyone to identify each other! hahaha! A lot can change in 25 years, ya know! People lose and gain weight. People have different hair cuts, hair colors or no hair at all! haha! Just seeing if you can recognize your old friends is half the fun!

This morning, as I started to direct my thoughts toward God, these two simple facts came to my mind.

1) Jesus is the same. The same Person that famous ministers and not-so-famous ministers talk about, is the same Person I am talking to. I have access to Him! So, I never have to feel jealous about other people's relationship with Jesus because I'm literally talking to that same Person! He's the same!

but then I also thought... yes He's the same...

2) Jesus is the same. The same Person I fell in love with 33 years ago when I first asked Him into My heart is the same One I'm talking to today. He's the same. He hasn't changed.  The Bible even says it:

Jesus Christ is (eternally changeless, always) the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8 AMP

It's mind blowing. He never changes!! That's remarkable to think about and maybe even a little hard for us to comprehend since we are ever changing in our human bodies. Jesus is eternal, changeless, always the same

So, here is the comfort this gives me today... The same Jesus that accepted Me and invited Me into friendship with Him 33 years ago, is the same One I'm having coffee with this morning. His holiness hasn't changed. His unconditional love hasn't changed. His forgiveness toward Me hasn't changed. His standards haven't changed. Honestly, this gives me such a sense of relief! I don't have to sit here and guess, then, if He loves me less than He did 3 decades ago. I don't have to worry that somehow the rules changed in our relationship and suddenly He's going to decide to leave Me because I've disappointed Him one to0 many times. No. The same Jesus that accepted me then, is the same Jesus that accepts me now. The same Jesus that forgave me then, is the same Jesus that forgives me now. The same Jesus I started following then is the same Jesus I am following now. And so if anything has changed in our relationship, it's gonna be me, not Him! haha He is faithful and true. He is good and He will never change.

So unlike class reunions, I never have to wonder. I never have to wonder what's changed because the answer will always be nothing. I also don't have to wear a name tag because He never forgets me! He never forgets my name!

Which leads me to a concluding thought. As I have been typing this out, I'm hearing these song lyrics in my head, "I'm the same boy I used to be." And I’m thinking, hmmm, what song is that from?  And then realized it's the song "Valerie." by Steve Winwood. haha! Yep that's MY name!  God is so funny with me!!! hahaha! So yes, He knows my name! And He's the same boy He used to be! (wink)

Just for fun, here’s the song. 😎🎶
