Hugging Your Opponent

Maybe...

It's the person you've been avoiding.

It's the relative that loves you with their lips but their actions betray you.

It's the driver in back of you who honks when they don't like how you're driving.

It's the political figure whom you don't agree with.

It's the person that makes you cringe or roll your eyes when their name comes up on your caller ID.

It's the neighbor next door who ignites your anger.

It's the person who never tips you when you wait on them.

It's the guy that lives upstairs that refuses to be polite and lower his music.

It's the woman who bumps into you at the store and keeps going without an 'excuse me'.

It's the person that judges you with their eyes. (You can just feel it!)

It's the one that tries to cheat you and trick you.

It's the one who demands to be loved but refuses to return it (and knows it.)

It's the one who's words cut instead of encourage.

It's the employer who's harsh with you.

It's the co-worker who gossips about you.

It's the bully you fear.

It's the one you might be thinking about right now...

******************

“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!

In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.

If you love only those who love you, what reward is there for that? Even corrupt tax collectors do that much. If you are kind only to your friends, how are you different from anyone else? Even pagans do that. (Matthew 5:43-47 NLT)
