Pie charts. You might be familiar with them. They're used to help us visualize percentages. Like if you wanted to see how much money you spent on certain items in your shopping budget, a pie graph would show each item's percent in relation to slicing a piece of pie. If you spent $5oo in diapers but only $10 on shampoo, your pie graph would have a huge slice representing the diapers and only a small slice representing the shampoo. I personally love pie charts because they are so visual. They give perspective, especially when it's hard to see the whole picture.

This morning, as I sat down for coffee and began to think about life and trusting God with my life, the image of a pie chart came to my mind. In the chart, I saw two slices... one was a tiny, tiny little slice and the other was a HUGE slice. And I thought to myself (well, it was probably the Lord helping me to perceive it), "That tiny little slice is my life on earth. And that big slice is my life in eternity." And then I thought, "Wow, I am trusting God with that big slice called 'Eternity'! How much more then can I trust Him with that tiny, little slice called, 'Life on Earth'?"
The book of Psalms in the Bible talks about this very thing; how short our time is here on earth:
Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be.
Remind me that my days are numbered—
how fleeting my life is.
You have made my life no longer
than the width of my hand.
My entire lifetime is just a moment to you;
at best, each of us is but a breath.”

We are merely moving shadows,
and all our busy rushing ends in nothing.
We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it.
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope?

I love that the psalmist prays, "Lord remind me..." For how quickly we forget! How quickly we lose sight of our pie chart. How quickly we think that life will always be the way it is right now. How quickly we forget that life is short but eternity is long. It's something to give thought to. It's something to keep in mind everyday of our lives.
Do you see your pie chart in your mind? And do you remember what God has promised? He has promised that He will never leave you nor forsake you and He will take care of you for eternity. He's got the big slice of pie in His hands! haha!
But, He holds the small piece, as well. (wink ;)
ALL of your life is under His care and protection (if you have come under it). And just as we trust Him for salvation/our eternity, we can trust Him for the brief moments we have here on earth. But not only that, we can also seek Him and discover what His will is for us while we are here experiencing this very small sliver of the pie! And THAT is something to consider. THAT is something to give thought to. THAT is something to keep in mind everyday of our lives.
