Because You Believed

“You are blessed because
you believed
that the Lord would do
what he said.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭1‬:‭45‬ ‭NLT‬‬

With it being the holidays, I'm reading through scriptures about the birth of Jesus. It's amazing to me how the Bible comes alive to us when we read it with faith and how certain scriptures that I've read before jump out to me in new ways as if I had never read them before at all! Like the scripture above. I read it yesterday and I thought, "Have I never read this before? How could I have not relished in this verse more?"

I found myself thinking about this verse off and on all day yesterday (which usually is the Holy Spirit bringing it back to my remembrance again and again for me to think on and ponder more. He's so good!)

I felt the Lord saying to me, "Valerie, what I have told you I would do. Have I told you things that would be impossible by human effort? Have I promised you a miracle (and miracles, plural ;)  just like Mary? Do you believe Me as Mary believed Me? Do you believe I will do everything I said I would do?

The answer is yes.
I believe.

How about you? Has God spoken some pretty outrageous promises to you? Things that could never be done by human effort? (like Mary's promise to get pregnant supernaturally!)

Do you believe Him?

Couple things I have learned over the years.

1. God doesn't speak things to us to play games with our heart. If He said it, He means it. And He will not lie to us. Period.

2. God is absolutely able. I have experienced things in life that I can say, "Yeah, only God could have done that!" He is able. Absolutely and completely able. He is completely competent to complete what He has said He will do. Period.

We can rest then in knowing that what God has said, He will do. He is able to do it and good enough to keep His promises to us. Always.

Do you believe that? If so....

✨🎄A few days later Mary hurried to the hill country of Judea, to the town where Zechariah lived. She entered the house and greeted Elizabeth. At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.

Elizabeth gave a glad cry and exclaimed to Mary, “God has blessed you above all women, and your child is blessed. Why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should visit me? When I heard your greeting, the baby in my womb jumped for joy. You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.”

Mary responded,

“Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior! For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed. For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me. He shows mercy from generation to generation to all who fear him. His mighty arm has done tremendous things! He has scattered the proud and haughty ones. He has brought down princes from their thrones and exalted the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away with empty hands. He has helped his servant Israel and remembered to be merciful. For he made this promise to our ancestors, to Abraham and his children forever.”

Mary stayed with Elizabeth about three months and then went back to her own home.
