A Slice of Heaven

A baker was busy making his daily bread. He was a diligent worker whose brow was always wet.

On one particular day, he accidental spilled extra oil in his bowl.

"What a mess!" he thought as he tried to figure out what to do now with this overly oiled bowl of dough. He reached for his flour container but remembered that he had just used up the last of his supply. There was nothing he could do to help bring balance to the dough.

Thinking for a moment he said to himself, "I guess I will watch to see what will happen to it. If it rises, I will still use it. If it doesn't, I will throw it away."

He went on with his day and came back several hours later. To his surprise, he found that the dough had not only risen but had absorbed all the extra oil!

"How can this be?" the perplexed baker thought as he scratched his ear. "This dough even looks better than my regular batches that follow the recipe exactly.

He shrugged and said, "Well, I may as well bake it."

He threw it in the oven with his other regular batches and watched in amazement as the dough with extra oil grew twice the size as the other batches and even started to balloon over the top of the pan!

"What is this?" he stared in amazement. "What kind of oil did I use that would produce such amazing results?"

He looked down at his ingredients and found that he in fact did not use his normal oil as he had thought. Turning the bottle around, he saw that he had accidentally used the oil that was given to him as a gift. He lifted the bottle and looked closer at its contents. Its color was different from the other oils he usually used and was obviously much thicker.

BZZZ! The baker was suddenly jolted out of his thoughts by the ringing timer.

He placed all the batches from the oven on the table to cool, as he always did, and noticed something yet again. The batch with the unusual oil had cooled instantly and was ready to eat!

"Why, that's impossible!" the baker exclaimed. He looked around the room quickly to see if someone was playing a trick on him.

The baker quickly grabbed his knife and sliced into it like it was warm butter. It took no effort to cut into! As he lifted the first piece, the aroma from the pan was something he had never smelled before. The oil had not only given it a new texture, it gave it a distinct scent!

With an increasing curiosity, he bent over to smell it closely and his mouth began to water instantly. This surprised him greatly because he had stopped craving his own baking a long time ago. He had grown used to the flavor and was tired of it. But this! This was something different! A batch sent from heaven itself!

The baker quickly placed the piece on a wooden plate and for the first time in a long time, he sat down and enjoyed this slice of heaven.

Leaning back in his chair, feeling filled and satisfied, he said to himself, "I will never go back to my old recipe again. This will be my new norm!"
