Make a Wish. Just One.
This morning, I woke up thinking about something I heard someone say recently. They said, to paraphrase, "Get to know the Holy Spirit. He is so much fun and He wants to help you..."
I could tell she flows with the Holy Spirit like a performer at an Ice Capades show. Beautiful. In sync. Each movement a graceful glide.
She had my attention.
I love hearing people talk about their relationship with the Holy Spirit because it's just not something that is verbalized a lot in many Christian circles (in my experience/observation). So when someone does talk about interacting with the Holy Spirit, I'm all ears! I love when they talk about Him like He's a real person that they have conversations with because well... HE IS A REAL PERSON YOU CAN HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH! hahaha!
So this morning, as I was just coming into consciousness, these thoughts were swirling in my mind and I thought, why do I limit myself in my interaction with the Holy Spirit sometimes? Why don't I flow more with Him throughout my day? Why don't I ask for His help more? The Bible says, we don't have because we don't ask. I need to be asking! I need to be interacting. I need to be inquiring more all day long.
And then the thought struck me.
Because you have been taught
by the world
to be limited in your asking.
Hmmm....
My thoughts continued...
Think about the
places and scenarios
that give people the opportunity
to ask for what they desire.
What has the world taught?
So I thought about it...
1) Movies where a genie in a bottle pops out. You're given three wishes. That's it.
2) Birthday candles. You get one wish when you blow out the flames. One.
3) Coins thrown in a fountain. We hold the coin and make one wish. One. Just one. And then throw our coin into the water.
4) Shooting stars. Make a wish! But just one.
Do you see what I'm saying? It's more subconscious than conscious, but we have been discipled into limited thinking when it comes to presenting our desires and dreams. We must filter everything before making our requests because you just get one (or maybe up to three! wow!) so you better make them good because then that's it. That's all you get.
But God's Kingdom doesn't run on that kind of operation! Jesus, himself said to ASK, SEEK and KNOCK. And to keep on coming back! Keep asking! Keep seeking! Keep knocking!
God wants to hear our requests! And He wants to help us throughout our day. He even calls His Holy Spirit The Helper. Well, hello??? HELPER. He's THERE to HELP! Have you ever been called in to help someone with something but you really ended up just standing there because they never allowed you to actually assist them? I have. And it's awkward. Well, the Holy Spirit is a gentlemen. So, He's not going to come in like some overbearing, bossy parent that's going to dictate and push you around. No. He waits for you to turn to Him and say, "Hey, can you help me out with this, Holy Spirit." And ya know what? I think He leaps at the chance to be involved in your life!
SO TODAY. We welcome Holy Spirit. We acknowledge that He is a real person who is right here with us, ready to help. He is kind. He is patient. He is everything good and lovely because...He is GOD. And He doesn't put limits on our requests. So, we toss out every notion that holds us back. No more 'one wish' thinking. Today, we welcome Him into everything.

“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.”

Another version:
“And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever— the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you.”
John 14:16-17 AMP

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
“You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.”
Matthew 7:7-11 NLT

You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.
James 4:2 NLT

I look up to the mountains— does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.
