Packing for the New Year
poem by: Valerie E. Bailey

What to leave and what to take?
What's a must and what's a mistake?
When packing for the future
don't assume you must bring everything.
Sort through, look over
and pack what is only going to give to you.

Don't take things that will suck you dry...
like unforgiveness that will leave you unsatisfied.

No, don't take things that need maintenance to carry.
Throw those things OFF! Or there will be no rest for the weary!
And just what things you might say to yourself? Well,

bitterness
resentment
thinking only of yourself.
And worry -- Oh worry! He is a foe not a friend!
So leave him in the rear view mirror
and never welcome him again!

But what things should be in your luggage?
Well how 'bout a splash of joy
and hope that keeps you from being discouraged?
How about a new set of glasses that only sees pink? It lets you see things differently! It gives you hope when things aren't right and lets you perceive things in a different view, a different light.

And don't forget love! Oh the greatest thing to remember! For without it your actions are just clanging cymbals and no one will listen or even be bothered.

And when you're all packed -- you need to test it and see. Is the baggage you carry light? Or have you not cast some cares yet upon Me? If the bag feels heavy, then put it down again and pull out the things that are still weighing on you, My friend!
Things like saying sorry and making amends will lighten your load -- so don't overlook its importance and wrap up the loose ends with people you know!

Now, one more thing... listen closely, dear, sweet child. You never know...this next year just might get a little wild. haha! So before you leave, I want you to lean against Me. And let Me strap you in and let your baggage rest on Me. For I don't want you scared. And I don't want you fearful. Just remember that living life with Me is a grand, grand adventure!
