A Continuous Broadcast

You know, the thing with the radio is that it never stops broadcasting. Television is the same way. But for those old enough to remember, television used to shut off at midnight. Imagine that! And we didn’t have Internet or DVDs or even VCRs back then. So literally our whole society had a screen entertainment cutoff. Stunning! How did we ever survive?! (Though we probably got a lot more sleep than folks do today.)

But I digress…

Literally, there is always something being broadcasted in our world. It never stops “talking”.  It doesn’t mean we are always hearing it, it just means that the opportunity is always there to turn it on.

Heaven is always broadcasting, too.

There is not a moment that goes by in our lives that God is not speaking. He uses his creation to proclaim his truth.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." (Psalm 19:1 NIV)

His voice can be heard, thanks to the Holy Spirit, our Helper.

"The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. But they will never follow a stranger; in fact they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice." (John 10:2-5 NIV)

And most especially, God's Word, the Bible, never stops singing His songs of love. Every single scripture plays a Kingdom melody.

"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." (Hebrews 4:12 NIV)

But watch out! We also have the choice of which 'station' we will tune in to. For the kingdom of darkness never stops broadcasting either. But that 'station' is filled with lies and deception and is controlled by evil forces. Oh, it will tickle your ears alright. But it will do nothing for your wholeness and health, and definitely nothing for your eternal well-being. In fact, its main objective in broadcasting is to "steal and kill and destroy" (John 10:10 NIV). Appealing, eh?

So, I encourage you today to reach for the 'knob'. I think many people would probably love to know what God thinks, but they don't really believe He's real and that He's speaking. They make Him out to be some kind of mute 'man upstairs'. But let me tell you, God is more real than we may think and He's serious about talking to His kids. He wants to be heard. He wants us to know what He thinks. He wants us in on His secrets. And just like the radio and television, He never stops broadcasting. But it's up to us whether we will choose to tune in.

Are you tuning in?
