Preparing for the Increase
So many of us have only gotten to know God in the midst of our poverty. In our lack, we have cried out to Him and have learned that He really is faithful. We've seen first hand His amazing ability to sustain us, even when we had nothing.
But what happens when the tide turns? When the wealth of the wicked gets handed over to the righteous. (It's in the Bible!) It will happen. And when it happens, are our hearts ready for it? There are some questions we need to ask ourselves and some sober thinking is required!
First of all,
1) Will we trust Him with our lives just as much in the abundance as we did in the lack? Or will we forget our God??
2) Will we never lose sight of the Father's heart for those in need (physical and spiritual). Or will we become self-consumed?
3) Have we done what we can, in the natural, to prepare for the blessing? When a couple is having a baby, they don't wait until the baby gets there to start thinking about basic logistics like where the baby will sleep.
This is very different thinking for many of us who have mostly lived paycheck to paycheck our whole lives. But, we have to think differently now! We are coming into a time when we will not be the tail, but the head. We will be required to steward things we've never had to steward before. Honestly, to me, it's going to take as much faith and trust in God in this next season as it did in the last when we were walking through the wilderness. But, God is faithful! And if we lean on Him, He will show us step by step how to handle the riches He is getting ready to pour out. These riches are not just to bless us, but to bless those around us. They are meant to bring the gospel to the ends of the earth and He is equipping us and financing us to do it! We must not lose sight of that.
So, food for thought today, my friend.
Are you ready for your 'ship to come in?'
***
Step by step, Lord, You lead the way.
I have only known you in poverty
but now you bring me out of the fray.
You set me on a hill, above the waves and tempest.
You won't let my back be unprotected.
The next step in the journey is one of adventure!
You have trained my hands for this
and you will make me prosper!
Yes, I have only known you in poverty, Lord,
but now I will see You fulfill your promises, Your every word!
