The Marshmallow Man

A marshmallow man came into town
looking for a place to call home.
But what he found, to his surprise,
was not what he thought he'd discover.

He thought the folks would welcome him in
And indeed they did just that.
But what they said, I repeat with dread:

"Come on in, there's a fire pit we've uncovered.
Snuggle up close, don't be worried or shy.
It might get warm, but you'll like it."

"And if he melts," they whispered to themselves,
"he's ours for the taking, the baking!"

The marshmallow man was no fool, no sir.
He saw through their schemes and their plotting.
"I'm not going to fall for this! No way, no how!
You're not going to use and abuse me."
But he thought to himself, "I won't leave this untouched.
I must protect the next mallow that's like me."

So he thought real hard how to trick them instead
and that night, he bought some fresh candles.
He lit them up bright and filled the dark night,
its light was perfect to cast shadows.

He stood in the distance, his silhouette was so big!
When they saw him they shook in their boots.
"Is that the marshmallow man?!" they gasped real hard,
"We don't remember him being so large!
What were we thinking? We can't take this beast down!"
And with a screech they ran fast into town.

"Don't touch this man of mallow!"
they warned all the folks in the streets.
"We thought he was just someone to use.
We thought he could be our next feast.
But we see it all clearly, he's a giant to us.
Someone tell him to leave us and go!
If we are not careful, he'll call all his friends!
This marshmallow is really a foe!"

The marshmallow man smiled in satisfaction.
He giggled and chuckled, too.
He, of course, knew the truth, that he was still little.
But the light made him big, the light won his battle!
