Fly in My Ear
There I was just lying in my bed minding my own business when I heard the buzzing. I sat up a little to see what was making the sound but I saw nothing and laid back down. Then I heard it again. The buzzing. But this time louder. And then, without warning, it was buzzing IN my ear!
"Aw!" I shrieked, as I quickly sat up again and shooed the little critter out of my ear and away.
Funny enough, I never actually saw this little annoying fly -- only heard and felt it. How intrusive -- and just as I was trying to settle in and rest for the evening.
Our enemy, the Lord of the Flies (Matthew 12:24) is something like this little critter I encountered that night. He doesn't show himself, but we can hear him buzzing around the air and many times right in our ear. He speaks only lies and hate and discord and deceit. He literally has nothing good to say. He has no love in him so his words only kill, steal and destroy. (John 10:10) Yeah, definitely not someone you want to make friends with.
But oh how we tolerate him! We let his voice fill our head and hearts all day long sometimes. We don't realize it's him usually. We think it's our own thoughts or ideas. But NO. It is Beelzebub, the one who buzzes in our ear, distracting us, annoying us and stealing from us.
Let me say right here, if especially you are a Christian and have the Spirit of God on the inside of you, the devil's voice has NO PLACE in your life. He is not your master. He is but a bug, a fly. He is nothing -- though he makes himself out to be so loud -- like a buzzing fly in your ear.
In those moments he is harassing us, we must do as we would a fly in our house:
shoo it away,
kill it,
not put up with it!
I slept great that night by the way. That fly had no business in my bedroom or in my ear!
