Our Constant, Our Rock, Our Anchor

I feel the shift in the air today. For some reason, I'm recognizing more today that things don't always stay the same.

Seasons change. Kids grow. People move. Routines shift. Standing appointments become less frequent. What we always thought was constant in our lives becomes less constant. What we always thought would never change, would always stay a certain way, starts shifting right before our very eyes.

It's both beautiful and bothersome. There are some things in our lives we want to see change. We beg for change to come, actually. And for other things, we never want them to end. We could relive the same scenario over and over for eternity, if left up to us.

It's a sobering realization, really. Things change. But knowing this also helps us not lean on the things that are temporary in this life but rather lean on the One who is eternally unchanging:  Jesus.

The only one who does not and will not change is Jesus. No matter where you catch Him on the timeline of history, He will be the same. That is what's so marvelous about knowing Jesus. We don't have to wonder what He was really like when we read the Bible, the Gospels. We can know the same person. We can know Him because He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

And the Father is the same too. He “does not change like shifting shadows.” Though we may learn more about Him everyday and see different sides to Him, He is still the same person. He will never flip flop on us and surprise us with some sort of Jekyll & Hyde scenario. This is part of Him being Holy and True. He is constant.

And this is why we can hold onto God, our Rock. Because He is not subject to the changing seasons, winds of trial, shifts in lifestyle. Though we are affected by changes and shifts, He is not. Therefore, He can be our anchor. Immovable. Constant.

So, when things shift....

get closer to the One who remains the same. He's like an "old friend" that knows you and loves you and will be the same for you, no matter how much the earth shakes and life changes.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
